SCIENCE OF SPEED, TOTAL IMMERSION WORKSHOP 29th April
Learn to swim even more efficiently with our “Science of Speed” workshop.
The best way to even more efficiently swim faster is to learn to Swim Smarter with our ‘Science of Speed’ one day swimming workshop.
This is a great opportunity to work with TI Master Coach Tracey Baumann. TI Level 3 Coaches Rafa Aledo and Iain Walters. The workshop is hosted by TI Level 3 Coach Rafa Aledo.
(Please note you will need a Finis Tempo Trainer for this workshop).
This one day workshop gives you a clear pathway to understanding your stroke and achieving greater efficiency; whether in the Pool or Open Water.
The workshop includes video analysis and comprises two hours classroom time and two sessions in the pool of two hours each. Maximum 4 swimmers per lane; everyone has the space to tune into their stroke without distraction. Swimmer to coach ratio is max 6 to 1.
- A better understanding of your balance, streamlining and alignment; vital skills to help you move efficiently through the water.
- Fine tune your breathing and arm recovery
- How to maintain a consistent, relaxed stroke for each length you swim in a pool or metre you swim in open water.
- Find your own ideal number of strokes per length (SPL) for pool practice based on your height, wingspan and personal biomechanics.
- Learn to use a Tempo Trainer for training to help you find your own personal sweet spots when it comes to tempo and stroke length.
- Change tempo and stroke length or “gears” according to your level of fatigue or environmental factors such as current or wind.
You will leave the workshop with an insight into a smarter way of practicing; an inspiring range of different permutations for your training sessions that will enable you to maximise your swimming potential.
There is no pressure to perform; everybody works at their own pace and their own level of endurance. It’s not like swimming a traditional club session where you swim in groups and there is pressure to keep up.
These workshops are all about helping individual swimmers learn to understand their own stroke better; to give them the tools to train better and smarter in the fun environment of a group session.
Most club swimmers have no idea how many strokes they take per length. Being aware and in control of the number of strokes you take and being able to consistently maintain this stroke length from the first to the last length of a 200, 400, or even and 800 or 1500m swim is an advanced skill. Speed is simply product of stroke length and tempo; so it’s important for swimmers to be able to tune into your stroke count.
Click here for a clip from Michael Phelps’ coach Bob Bowman explaining why stroke counting is important.
Although there is a fair amount of time swimming in the two sessions; the sets are mainly 25 metres, 50 metres (and some 100 metres); manageable chunks even for those not used to swimming long distances.
The workshop is carefully designed to be manageable for everybody; if you need a break, you take a break. It will start at 11:00 a.m. and we will finish at 20:00 p.m.
We absolutely guarantee this workshop will change the way you think about swimming and training forever, in pool or open water
